Man, I’ve been eyeing the OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch for a while now. I mean, it’s a legendary piece, and as a watch guy, it’s always been on my radar. So, I finally pulled the trigger and got myself one.
First off, I did some digging around. This isn’t just any Speedmaster, you know? It’s the third one with a Snoopy theme, and it’s been super hot since it dropped in 2020. What I found interesting was that this one commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Silver Snoopy award, not the ill-fated mission. There were previous versions of course. Some folks were talking about a white Snoopy from 2015, which was for Apollo 13’s 45th anniversary and that one was made in very small numbers. All the Snoopy watches are considered a good investment, but this 50th Anniversary edition caught my eye.
I hit up the Omega boutique to get my hands on it. Walked in, and there it was, in all its glory. I paid the retail price, just like any regular Joe. The whole buying process was smooth. The staff at the boutique were pretty helpful, explained the whole deal with the watch, and even showed me the cool stuff on the back.
Now, about the watch itself. It’s not a limited edition, technically, but everyone wants it. The case back is where it gets really interesting. Unlike the older Snoopy watches that just had the Silver Snoopy motif, this one has a whole scene. And it moves! It’s powered by this OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, which is a beast of a movement, from what I’ve heard.
The dial is silver, with these slick blue accents on the sub-dials. Classic Speedmaster vibes, but with that Snoopy twist. I mean, it is what it is, a classic but playful watch.
Since getting it, I’ve been wearing it almost every day. It’s comfortable, looks great, and honestly, it feels special to have on my wrist. It’s one of those watches that you know is a big deal, even if you’re not a watch expert.
I’ve seen some chatter online about it being one of the most sought-after Speedmasters, and I can see why. It’s got history, it’s got that cool factor, and it’s just a solid watch all around. No wonder people were saying it’s a reliable investment piece. It wasn’t cheap, but for a watch guy like me, it was worth every penny. I’m stoked to have it in my collection, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a conversation starter for years to come.
To be honest, there was one thing that made me hesitate initially, though. I heard it launched back on October 5th, and I was worried it would be impossible to get. There are some forum posts from like, January 2023, November 2023, some even from last year, with people talking about how they were waiting for ages or having trouble finding one. That made me sweat a bit. But I guess I got lucky, or maybe the hype has died down a little. Either way, I managed to snag one, and I’m not complaining!
