Yesterday, I went to a local specialty store to check out some watches. I have been eyeing the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch for a while, and I wanted to see it in person.
When I got to the store, I saw it, that OMEGA Speedmaster Professional. I asked the salesperson if I could try it on. He gladly helped me out, and I have to say, it felt amazing on my wrist.
The watch is 42 millimeters, which is a good size for me. It was not too big, not too small, just perfect. It’s also 13 millimeters thick, so it sits nicely on the wrist without feeling bulky.
I noticed the watch has this cool glow-in-the-dark feature called Super-LumiNova on the hands and indexes. I turned off the lights to test it. The salesperson looked at me strangely, but whatever. It worked well, making it easy to read the time even in the dark.
This model is a manual wind, meaning you have to wind it yourself. It is kind of old school, but I like it. The salesperson told me it has a caliber called 3861. I am not sure what that means, but it sounds impressive.
I spent a good amount of time just admiring the watch. The salesperson shared some stories about the Moonwatch, like how it was the first watch on the moon and all that. It was cool to hear, but honestly, I was just enjoying the feel of the watch on my wrist.
I have also heard that there is a version that is almost the same as the one from 1969. I guess Omega still makes them like they used to. That is pretty awesome, to be honest.
In the end, I did not buy the watch yet, but it is definitely on my list. I need to save up a bit more, as they are not cheap. But wearing it, even just for a little while, made me want it even more. The craftsmanship, the history, and just the overall feel of the watch were fantastic.
Here are some quick details I jotted down about the watch:
- Model: OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch
- Caliber: 3861
- Diameter: 42 mm
- Thickness: 13 mm
- Features: Super-LumiNova on hands and indexes
Final Thoughts
Visiting the specialty store was a great experience. Getting to see and try on the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch in person was awesome. I am now more determined than ever to add this beauty to my collection. It is a bit pricey, but I think it is worth it for such a well-crafted and iconic timepiece.
