Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the Sapphire crystal and the Cal.3861 movement, for a while now. Finally pulled the trigger and wanted to share my experience with y’all.
First off, I started by looking around to find out where I could actually get one. Seems like there were only 6,969 of these made, so it wasn’t as easy as walking into any old watch store. But I knew I wanted it. I went to a few shops and finally got it from a dealer.
When I first saw the watch in person, I was immediately struck by its classic look. It’s got that 42mm stainless steel case that just feels solid and well-made. And that domed sapphire crystal? Man, it looks amazing. The black leather strap it came on was pretty nice too, but I had other plans for that.
I immediately swapped out that leather strap for a bracelet. It has polished links that just gleam in the light. I saw someone who did this before, and I felt good about it. Feels good on the wrist. Makes it look even more premium, if you ask me.
Now, about that movement. The Cal.3861 is supposed to be super accurate, like within 0/+5 seconds a day. I’ve been wearing mine for a week now, and it’s been keeping time like a champ. The old one was Cal.1861, it is said that it requires more service. This new one is an update. Feels better I guess. They also said it can handle magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, which, I don’t even know what that means, but it sounds impressive, right?
And honestly, who can’t relate to the whole moon landing connection? I mean, astronauts wore these things in space! It’s just cool to have a piece of history like that on your wrist. This Speedmaster is a classic. I mean, the design hasn’t really changed much since the late ’60s, and it still looks great today.
I’ve been wearing this watch every day since I got it, and I gotta say, I’m loving it. It’s comfortable, it looks great, and it’s got that whole space history thing going for it. If you’re thinking about getting one, I’d say go for it. You won’t regret it.
