I saw this Fendi bag the other day, and I thought it was really cool, so I decided to try and make one myself. I’m talking about the Fendi Zucca Oyster Bag, also known as the Zucchino Oyster Shoulder Bag. It’s got this unique shape, and the famous Fendi monogram all over it. I really liked it, so here’s how I went about recreating it.
First things first, I started by sketching out the design. I looked up a bunch of pictures online, especially from what they call the “official flagship store” to get a good look at it from all angles. I paid close attention to the rounded, asymmetrical shape—it’s pretty distinctive.
Then, I needed to find some fabric. The original bag is made from this canvas material with the Fendi logo pattern, called “Zucchino.” I couldn’t find the exact same fabric, of course, but I found a similar monogrammed canvas that looked pretty close. It’s a beige color, just like the one I saw.
- I cut the fabric according to the pattern I had drawn.
- I also got some black leather for the trim and the strap, just like the real deal.
- I made sure the leather was soft but sturdy.
Next, I started sewing. This was the trickiest part. I sewed the canvas pieces together, making sure to get that oyster shape right. It’s not your usual square or rectangle bag, so it took some patience. After that, I attached the leather trim. I used a thick, strong thread for this, because it needs to hold up well. The original bag has some silver-tone hardware, I managed to find similar-looking buckles and zippers at a local craft store. I added those in, which really helped to make it look authentic.
The strap was another thing. The real bag has a flat, adjustable shoulder strap, so I made one just like that. I cut a long piece of the black leather, folded it over, and sewed it together. Then I attached the buckles so it could be adjusted. The bag also has these two exterior zip pockets, which I thought were pretty neat. I carefully sewed those onto the sides, making sure they were functional and looked good.
Once everything was sewn together, I checked all the seams and made sure everything was secure. The inside of the bag is lined, so I added a simple black fabric lining. It’s not exactly the same as the original—I heard someone say the lining ripped slightly on theirs—but I made sure mine was durable.
It took me a few days to finish the bag. It was fun, but also kind of a challenge. I like it. Maybe not as polished as the one from the official store, but it’s got that same vibe. Plus, I made it myself, which is pretty cool, right?
So yeah, that’s how I made my version of the Fendi Zucca Oyster Bag. I think I did a decent job, especially since I’m no pro. If you ever want to try making your own bag, I’d say go for it. It’s a fun project, and you get to have a unique bag at the end of it!
