Okay, so, I’ve been seeing the Prada Re-Edition 2005 bag everywhere lately. You know, on TikTok, Instagram, even some of my favorite celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid have been carrying it around. It’s such a classic, and I got this idea that maybe I could try to remake one myself, an original order you could say. It seemed like a fun challenge, and who doesn’t love a good designer bag? I did not know it is a great investment piece as many designs become classics and never go out of style.
First, I started digging around to learn more about this bag. Turns out, Prada was founded way back in 1913 by a guy named Mario Prada. The Re-Edition 2005 is, like the name suggests, a remake of a popular style from 2005. It’s a shoulder bag, but it also comes with a detachable chain strap and a little coin purse. So many choices, I like it. I saw it in a bunch of colors, but I decided to go with basic black, the timeless classic.
Then I got to work. I bought black leather and some silver hardware that looks like the real deal. Finding the right material was tricky, but I wanted it to look as close as possible to the original, you know? I spent a good amount of time studying pictures of the bag online, trying to figure out the exact measurements and how all the pieces fit together.
Breaking It Down
- Cutting the Leather: This was the scariest part. I carefully measured and marked the leather, then took a deep breath and started cutting. It is about measuring twice and cutting once. I made sure to cut a little extra, just in case I messed up.
- Stitching: I’m not the best at sewing, but I took it slow. I used a thick, strong thread, and tried to make my stitches as neat and even as possible, just like they are on the real bag. The details are where it’s at, so the stitching had to be on point.
- Hardware: Adding the hardware was fun. I attached the buckles, the zipper, and that little Prada logo plate. That little triangle is iconic, so I had to get it right! It felt like assembling a puzzle, a fashionable one.
- The Strap: I made the shoulder strap adjustable, just like the original. The chain was a little tricky. I had to use pliers, and let’s just say, it took a few tries to get it looking right.
- The Coin Purse: This little guy was actually the easiest part. It’s just a simple pouch with a zipper. It is a cute little accessory.
After many hours of work, a few minor mishaps, I finally finished it! It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It definitely looks like a Prada Re-Edition 2005, at least from afar. It is rewarding to see the finished product, though. And hey, now I have a unique bag that I made myself, my own original order. I guess I’m now one of those people adding to the millions of views for the Prada Re-Edition on TikTok!
I might try making another one in a different color, or maybe even try to recreate a different designer bag. It’s a fun hobby, and it’s way cheaper than buying the real thing. It will hold value over time. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter. Every time I carry it, someone asks me where I got it, and I get to tell them the whole story. I would say that it is a worthwhile project, definitely. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a whole collection!
