This big bag, they call it Prada Galleria, Saffiano leather, what a mouthful, right? My granddaughter, she’s always on about these fancy things. Says I need to know about them. Says I need a new bag, one of these. Well, I told her, my old bag works just fine, thank you very much. But she keeps showing me pictures on that phone of hers, these big Prada bags. This one is the Remake Prada Large Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, she says. So I ask her about the remake. She says, it is same as before, just new.
But she wanted to quote. I don’t know what that means, but she keep talking about the quote all the time. I’m looking at this picture, and I’m thinking, it’s just a big black purse. What’s all the fuss about? I said, how much is this thing gonna cost me? She says, “Oh, Grandma, it’s an investment!” An investment? I told her, I invest in my garden, in good seeds, and strong fences to keep them darn rabbits out. That’s an investment. This bag, it’s just for carrying things, ain’t it? I have a good bag, it works.
Big Prada Bag, Big Price
This Prada Galleria bag, it’s made of some kind of special leather, she says. Saffiano, or something like that. Says it’s real leather, but they do something to it, press it, make it all fancy. My old bag’s leather, too. Good strong leather. Lasted me years. This Saffiano, it just looks like regular leather to me, but what do I know? I guess they think it makes the bag worth more money. I have seen leather in my life, good and bad, this looks okay.
She says this Galleria bag, it came out a long time ago, 2007. That’s a while back. I remember 2007, that’s when old Bessie, my neighbor’s cow, had twin calves. Surprised everyone, she did. Anyway, this bag’s been around, and they keep making it. I don’t know, there are so many bags, they all look same to me.
- They say this Prada Galleria is for fancy ladies. “Chic,” my granddaughter says. I reckon I’m as chic as a hen in a mud puddle, but I still carry a bag. Maybe these fancy ladies like spending lots of money on things. I don’t know.
- This bag, it’s big. You could fit a whole lot in there. Maybe even a small chicken, if you had to. I usually just carry my wallet, my keys, some hard candy, and maybe a handkerchief. Don’t need all that space. If I need a big bag, I have my market bag.
- She showed me another bag, a black one made of straw. Said it cost a lot, too. Straw! I told her, I got a whole barn full of straw. Could make a hundred bags with that. She just rolled her eyes at me. These young people, they don’t understand. They don’t know how hard it is to get real straw.
- My granddaughter says I gotta “freshen up my look.” What’s that even mean? I look how I look. I’m not some fancy city lady. This Prada bag ain’t gonna change that, no matter how much it costs. I am good the way I am, don’t need a bag to tell me.
She keeps going on about this Remake Prada Large Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. Says it’s the best. Says everyone wants one. Well, maybe they do. But I’m not everyone. I ask her again, how much for this remake bag? She says a lot again. This Prada bag is not for me. I’m happy with my old bag. It’s got character. It’s got stories. This Prada bag, it’s just a bag. A big, expensive, black bag. And that’s all it is. I like my bag, it’s good.
Prada Bag Not For Me, Need No Quote
I told her, save your money, honey. Buy yourself something useful. Like a good pair of boots. Or a new set of canning jars. Something that’ll last, something that’ll do you some good. This Prada, it’s just a trend. Comes and goes like the weather. My old bag, it’s a classic. Like me. I told her, keep your quote. I don’t need it. I am good.
I guess these city folks like their fancy things. They like to show off, spend their money on things they don’t need. Me, I like things simple. Things that work. Things that last. And most importantly, things that don’t cost you an arm and a leg. My bag is good. My bag works. I told her, I don’t want a Prada bag. Not now, not ever. I am happy with what I have. I think I need to make a cake. My granddaughter likes cake. Maybe that will make her forget about this quote thing.
I swear, sometimes, I don’t understand these young people. They get all caught up in these brands and labels. This Prada Galleria, it is good, maybe, but not for me. I don’t care. But it’s not for me. I like my old bag. I am happy. I hope my granddaughter will be happy too, without a Prada bag. Maybe she will learn, someday. I will try to teach her.
