Hey everyone, so I’ve been obsessed with vintage fashion lately, and you know how Prada has been bringing back some of their classic designs? Well, I had my eye on this one: the Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Mini-Bag. It’s a remake of a bag from their 1995 archives, and I just had to get my hands on it.

First thing, I hit up the official Prada store online. I found the bag, saw the price tag, and thought, “Okay, maybe I can try making this myself.” Plus, I saw that it was made from at least 50% recycled materials, which got me thinking I could do something similar, but my own way.

I started by sketching out the design. It’s got this cool square shape, with double chain straps. I made sure to note the logo badge on the front and that little leather charm. And of course, it’s all quilted, which looked like it might be the trickiest part.

Next, I went on a fabric hunt. I wanted to stick with the recycled theme, so I found some old nylon jackets and clothes that I wasn’t using anymore. After taking them apart and cleaning them up, I had a bunch of nylon fabric to work with.

Then came the real work. I cut out the fabric according to my sketch, leaving some extra for the quilting. I’d never quilted before, so I watched a few videos and practiced on some scraps. It was tough, but I eventually got the hang of it, creating that puffy, quilted look.

Once the quilting was done, I started assembling the bag. Sewing the pieces together was pretty straightforward, but the chain straps were a pain. I bought some gold-tone chains from a craft store and figured out how to attach them securely. The logo badge was another challenge. I ended up using some thick paper and a marker to make a temporary one, just for now.

The Results

After a lot of trial and error, I finally finished my DIY Prada Re-Edition 1995 bag! It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It’s got that same square shape, the chain straps, and the quilted look. It’s even got a little charm, made from some leftover leather I had. And I managed to keep the height around 25cm, just like the original.

This project was definitely a learning experience. I learned how to quilt, how to work with nylon, and how to attach chain straps. It wasn’t easy, but it was super rewarding to see the final product. Plus, I got to make something inspired by a high-end designer bag, using recycled materials, and without spending a fortune. It is a win-win thing.

If you’re thinking about trying something like this, go for it! It’s a fun way to challenge yourself and create something unique. Just be prepared to spend some time on it, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes along the way. That’s how we learn, right?
