So, I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch for a while now. I mean, who hasn’t, right? It’s like the holy grail for watch guys. Finally, last August, I just went for it. Pulled the trigger and ordered one. This wasn’t just any regular purchase, I wanted the original order with the open case back.
Getting my hands on it was a whole other story. I did a ton of research beforehand, you know, just to make sure I wasn’t getting ripped off. There are so many fake ones out there, it’s crazy! I read that these watches usually keep their value, especially the older ones, so I figured it was a good idea to get the real deal.
Waiting Game
The waiting was the worst part. But when that package finally arrived, it was like Christmas morning. I carefully opened it up, and there it was, the classic Moonwatch. It’s just so beautiful in person. I chose the open case back, so you can see all the workings inside, like the details of the movement and stuff.
Unboxing and First Impressions
- Unboxing: I ripped open the box – carefully, of course – and there it was. It looked amazing.
- First Look: It’s got that classic black dial, and it’s manual winding, just like the original one that was on the Moon.
- The Feel: It’s got some weight to it, but it’s not too heavy. It just feels solid, you know? Like it could last for years.
Digging Deeper
I spent hours just staring at it, turning it over in my hands. I even used a magnifying glass to check out the details. They say you can tell a fake from a real one by looking at the finer points. I wanted to make sure everything was just right, especially since I went for the original order. The case back is different on these, it’s got this single-angle beveled design, which is apparently a thing for the pre-Moon models. It’s not the “First Watch Worn on the Moon” one, but it’s still pretty cool.
After getting it, I started looking into forums and stuff. Seems like there are a lot of people who are into these watches. Some folks were talking about how to tell if it’s real or not, and others were discussing aftermarket case backs. I guess some people like to change them out. I wanted to keep mine original, though. This is the one for me.
Living with the Moonwatch
It’s been a few months now, and I wear it almost every day. It’s not just a watch, it’s like a piece of history on my wrist. I don’t know much about all the technical stuff, I just like the way it looks and feels. And knowing that it’s a real OMEGA, not some cheap copy, makes it even better.
I’ve noticed that people definitely notice it. I’ve gotten a few compliments, and a couple of people have even asked me about it. It’s a good conversation starter, that’s for sure. Even if you aren’t a watch expert, it is a pretty cool watch after all.
If you’re thinking about getting one of these, I say go for it. Just make sure you do your research and get it from a trusted place. It’s definitely worth it. For under five grand, it’s not a bad deal for such an awesome watch.
And if you can, get the open case back. It’s just so cool to see all the gears and things moving around inside. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
