My boy, he say he want to buy a watch, a fancy one. He call it, what, a “Rolex”? Sounds like a medicine to me. He say this one, it’s a High imitation Rolex Two-tone Black Submariner. High imitation? What’s that mean? Imitation is no good, I tell him. Buy the real one! But he say it’s good, it’s the same look. I don’t know. Kids these days.
He show me picture, this Rolex Submariner, it’s black and gold. Two-tone, he say. I say, “Why you need gold? You ain’t no king.” He just laugh. This Black Submariner, it look shiny. He say it for diving. Diving? Who dives with a gold watch? Back in my day, we swim in the river with no watch.
He keep talking, this boy, about this Rolex watch. He say it’s a good purchasing. I say, “What’s wrong with the old watch?” He got one from his grandpa, work just fine. But no, he want this new, shiny thing. He say this Two-tone Black Submariner is popular. I say popular for what? Telling the time? My old clock tell the time just fine.
He say this kind of watch, this Submariner, it keep its value. I don’t understand. A watch is a watch. He say this high imitation one is cheaper, but still good. I say, “Cheaper is cheaper.” He say people like this Rolex Two-tone Black Submariner purchasing. They buy it and wear it and show it off.
I tell him, “You want to show off, you work hard. You don’t need a fancy watch.” But he don’t listen. He want this Black Submariner. He say it look good. Maybe it do, I don’t know. It just a watch to me. But this purchasing, I worry. He work hard for his money.
He say this two-tone thing, it’s special. He say black is good. Some have blue, he say, but he like black. I say black is for funerals. He say, “No, ma, it’s cool.” Cool? What’s cool about a watch? This Rolex Submariner, it just a watch.
This high imitation Rolex Two-tone Black Submariner purchasing, it’s all he talk about. He show me on the computer, many people have them. Many pictures. I say, “You need to work, not look at pictures.” He say he is saving. Saving for a watch?
I don’t get it. But he’s a good boy. He work hard. If he want this watch, this Submariner, this black one, maybe it’s okay. He say it’s a good purchasing. He say it’s like investing. Investing in a watch? I don’t know about that.
Here’s what I think about this whole Rolex Two-tone Black Submariner purchasing thing:
- It’s a watch.
- It tells the time.
- It’s black and gold. Two-tone, they call it.
- It’s shiny.
- My boy wants it.
- He say it’s a good purchasing.
- He say it’s high imitation, whatever that means.
- It’s a Submariner. I think that’s the name.
- Lots of people have them, he say.
- He say it keeps its value, like gold or land.
He keeps going on about this high imitation Rolex. It look nice but a bit too much gold. If I ever get a watch like that, I’d want it all black. But, I tell you, a watch is a watch. It’s for telling time, not for showing off.
This purchasing thing, though. He says it’s like when we buy seeds for the garden. You plant them, they grow, they become more. This watch, he says, it’s like that. It’s worth more later. I don’t know about all that. I just know you work hard, you save your money, you buy what you need, not what you want. But he’s set on this Rolex Two-tone Black Submariner.
He says some people, they buy the real Rolex. Very expensive, he says. This high imitation one, it’s cheaper. But still a lot of money. He says it looks the same. I look close at the picture. Maybe it does. But real is real, I always say.
He say this Submariner, it’s strong. It can go deep in the water. He show me a picture of a man wearing it underwater. I say, “Why’s he wearing a watch underwater?” He just laughs. This purchasing, it’s making him happy. I guess that’s something.
This whole Rolex Two-tone Black Submariner purchasing is beyond me. I like the old ways. Simple things. But he’s young. He likes these new things. This black and gold watch. Maybe it will make him happy. I just hope he’s making a good purchasing. I just hope he’s not throwing his money away on a shiny thing that just tells the time. He says it’s more than that. He says it’s a Submariner. He says it is the best high imitation.
